The Essence of "Yán"
Brilliant colors, drawn from the rocks;
Rich tea fragrance, born of the rocks;
Serene chanting sounds, grounded in the rocks.
Yán Art Centre is inspired by a line from Entering Ruo Ye Stream《入若耶溪》: "The sound within the rocks answers itself, the words in the stream grow quieter, everything evokes a sense of solitude." The "rock" itself holds the answer— from the mineral pigments used in painting, known as "Rock Colors" (岩彩), to the ancient tea trees growing from the cracks in rocks, known as "Rock Tea" (岩茶), and even the practice of cultivating mental stillness like a "rock" through the sound waves of a singing bowl. Interestingly, the location of the art centre is in a place called Segambut, which also contains the character "岩" (rock).
Yán Art Centre is dedicated to creating a space, offering courses, and curating unique products rooted in Eastern aesthetic culture. We aim to provide students with an immersive experience, allowing them to connect deeply with the essence of Eastern aesthetics and create emotional connections.
Our art centre aspires to promote the wonders of Eastern aesthetics through courses, exhibitions, and gathering events. By doing so, we hope to enhance the public's understanding and skills in art, ultimately fostering a stronger appreciation for aesthetics within the community.
